Why do I need a Google Business Profile?

Home » Blog » Why do I need a Google Business Profile?

Your free listing on Google is called your Google My Business (formerly known as Google Business Profile) and it appears in several places:

  • The local pack at the top of your search results page when you search for specific goods or services in your area
  • On Google Maps
  • Knowledge panel when someone searches directly for your business

Google My Business is one of the simplest and most effective ways to boost visibility for your business and the services you offer.

The benefits of having a Google Business Profile

Claiming and optimising your free listing is a powerful yet easy win for any small, local business with a bricks and mortar location, or any business that offers services in a specific geographic location such as a joiner or electrician. With a Google business profile you’re able to:

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date information on your business such as your phone number and opening times
  • Interact with new and existing customers by earning reviews or answering questions on your goods and services
  • Attract new business by improving your Google ranking, helping businesses and consumers find you easily
  • Build trust through independent reviews
  • Direct people to your website via the website link

Setting up/Claiming your business

You are likely to be in one of two camps. If your business already has a Google business listing but you do not manage or own it, search for your business on Google, click ‘Own this business?’, and follow the instructions to claim. If you are setting up from scratch, follow this link, hit ‘manage now’, and create your profile, filling in as much detail as possible. You will also need to complete a verification process afterwards.
